Asking for support is the first step forward when life can seem overwhelming; low mood, anxiety, confusion, irritability, and isolation are some of the feelings we can experience.
In this time of overwhelm my priority is to allow you to be heard and feel supported. My work ethos is about encouraging support through increased self-awareness and a greater understanding of mental health.
What can I offer you? A greater understanding of where you are now and identifying specific tools, exploring together what you need to enable you to move forward. I work as an integrative therapist, which just means that I use a number of different models of therapy to personalise the work to your needs.
Working together; therapy is a collaborative experience and we can increase your understanding and self-awareness leading to reinstating a greater sense of happiness, balance, and control.
I have gained a range of experience based in my private practice as well as having been a senior counsellor and Clinical Lead at Clarity which is a mental health charity based in Barnstaple. During my many years working with this charity, I have engaged with a great range of mental health issues.
At the core of our work is the therapeutic relationship, this is key, as finding the right therapist is important for the work to be successful, it is vital that you feel comfortable with your therapist. For this reason, I offer a free initial telephone or video assessment, without any obligation. This allows us to discuss what challenges you are facing and what I can offer you. Allowing you to feel at ease in the process is very important to me.
Well from our first conversation, you will note a 'bit' of a Canadian accent. I grew up in Canada and relocated to the UK many years ago and have lived in North Devon for the last 20+ years. We raised our family here and enjoy the many opportunities for walking our dogs. My most recent canine companions include a slobbery basset hound with a huge heart and a very bouncy spaniel who is equally lovely. Just in case you were wondering neither are therapy dogs as they would demand too much of your attention.
Supervision, according to the BACP, provides support, learning and reflection for professionals. Yes this is true however this profession is quite a solitary one and feeling that you have someone to explore your work with is important. I like to work with my supervisees in a way where we are working ethically, supporting the client but also where you feel supported this may be taking the time to check in where you are or providing theoretical information, processes or tools.
If you are interested in supervision we can arrange a quick chat to discuss what you are looking for.
